Plein Air Painting Workshop!

Plein air painting offers a fun way to quickly improve your skills in seeing and painting. Joan Vienot, winner of the 2016 Bagdad Milton Plein Air Paint-Out and the 2015 Lynn Haven Local Color Plein Air Festival Paint-Out, will present how to utilize shape-making to start a plein air painting in a way that will offer a high likelihood of success. Joan will show how to use recognizable shapes to make an interesting composition, will give tips and practice in thumbnail sketching using two and three values, and will demonstrate the initial layout of the composition using identifiable shapes. Joan will paint in oils, but the concepts also apply if using other media. This One-day workshop in Watersound Origins will immediately be followed by the two-day Flutterby festival and plein air paint-out at that same location. Triangle Art Show and Sale

artwork by Melissa Mercer Brown

Excitement is building in DeFuniak Springs for the first-ever “Pop-Up” Art Show and Sale, to be held one night only on October 14th, 2017. The public is invited to view the works of nine regional Florida artists who have been specifically chosen to represent the variety and exceptional talent available in this area.

The show and sale will be held in the former Triangle Chevrolet service building “in the alley” in downtown DeFuniak Springs. “We specifically chose this venue because it is reminiscent of an old industrial New York loft,” said artist and show organizer John Murphy. “We also have a few surprises planned for those who attend.”

“The use of this old building for an art show reflects the changing ways that we can help revitalize our downtown and pay tribute to the history of DeFuniak Springs,” said Bruce Naylor, also one of the artists also chosen to exhibit.

In addition to Murphy and Naylor, the participating artists from North Walton include Melanie Moore, Paulette Morrison, and Jean Kittelson. Melissa Mercer Brown, Francisco Adaro, and Russell Farris from South Walton will also be showing their work. Special
guest artist Leica Baldwin from Lady Lake, Florida will show her paintings.

The public is invited to attend this unique event from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday, October 14th. The artists will be available to talk about their work, and refreshments will be served. All artwork will be available for sale.

HOW TO FIND THE TRIANGLE ART SHOW & SALE: Downtown DeFuniak Springs in the alley between Nelson Ave (Hwy90) and Baldwin Ave, and between 7th and 8th Streets. Free parking is available on Baldwin Ave, and 7th & 8th Streets. Signs will direct you to the Art Show entrance in the alley.
