Betty “BJ” Pinkston

Betty Pinkston, known as BJ in the art world, is a newcomer to Santa Rosa Beach. She is continuing her love of painting in what she calls “living in paradise.” She works in watercolors, acrylics and mixed media and calls herself an “intuitive” artist. Growing up on a farm, BJ experienced a passion for nature and all things organic. This led her to explore and develop a personal interpretation of all things natural. Her passion is watercolor but she will paint in the medium that best captures her subject or idea. Her work ranges from realism to abstract and sometimes non-objective. Recently she has been experimenting with all forms of texture and color as well as small colleges that tell a story to her viewer.

Her formal training includes Auburn University at Montgomery, AL, private lessons and workshops. She has studied with Edgar Whitney, Charles Movali, Gerald Brommer, Tony Couch, Zoltan Szabo and others and credits each for the inspiration, motivation and guidance she received.

BJ’s paintings are in galleries, corporations, homes and private collections nationwide. Her work has won numerous juried awards and purchase awards over the years.

She has taught watercolor, acrylic and mixed media classes for the past 8 years and conducts workshops upon request.

Her hope is her viewers will feel a personal connection to her work and experience their own individual journey of interpretation.
